The defendant admitted 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

An individual who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys aged nine and ten years old.

The accused was detained after eight minors and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

The man conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.

The legal representative added: "This year his stepchild had worries about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC stated objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She explained the man proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that point," she continued.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

Mrs Prior said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities a second time.

She stated the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five children.
