Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
